Our Family Easter Dinner, 2017 . . .

We had such a wonderful time at our Family Easter Dinner on Sunday! All three of my children and six grandchildren plus Jason’s fiance, April, and Cameron’s girlfriend, Emily were with us to celebrate Easter.

My granddaughter, Bethany, had come over on Saturday to help me prepare some of the foods in advance, which was a GREAT HELP! Of course, the two tables were already ready with tablecloths, centerpieces, and other place setting necessities. All were done so our Family Easter Dinner would be enjoyed by all . . .all done in advance for my family!

Family . . .

Besides celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, family, to me, is what Easter is all about . . . a day to celebrate this holiday with those you love! Because we go to church, I decided to have our Easter dinner at 4 p.m. This also made it possible for Jennifer, my daughter-in-law, to come, since she works weekend nights as an RN at a hospital.

My family began arriving between 2:30 and around 4.  While we finished getting the foods ready to eat, the men visited in the living room, and the children played outside.

Preparing the food for Our Family Easter Dinner . . .

Bethany and I made two Hash Brown Casseroles, the Unbundled Green Beans casserole, Mama’s Potato Salad, the Cherry Cream Cheese Pie, and the two Grandmama Hall’s Egg Custard Pies on Saturday. All were wrapped with foil and refrigerated. The casseroles were baked on Sunday, and, of course, the other foods we made were ready to eat.

When Lynn and I returned home from church, the first thing that had to be done was bake the ham. While the ham was baking, I made the Strawberry Pecan Salad. Once the ham was done, the three casseroles went into the oven.

Trey brought his Deviled Eggs, which everyone in the family likes. While the casseroles were baking, Bethany and I made Grandmama Hall’s Buttermilk Biscuits, and Jennifer made her Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese.

Candace brought two of Mama’s Strawberry Pies, which are beyond heavenly!!! She makes my mother’s recipe, and sells it in her shop. Her customers have been keeping her hopping making these pies for them.

Dinner Time!!!

Finally all the foods were done and arranged on the buffet, and it was time to eat! Lynn prayed over our meal, then it was time to “dig in”! Let’s just say . . . no one left hungry:)

After dinner, there was family time with great conversation, laughs, and fun! (Jennifer had to leave to go to work, so she’s not in the after-dinner pictures.) It was a wonderful time, well worth the effort to get everyone together for Easter!

How did you celebrate Easter this year?

  1. Megan Jerrard says:

This sounds wonderful, thankyou for sharing and allowing us to relive Easter with you! I spent a very quiet Easter at home with my husband, very simple cooking, and we went for a lovely walk. Next year we will be with our extended family again where there will be mass cooking and laughter – really looking forward to it 🙂

    Happy Easter

    • Thank you, Megan:) Sounds like your Easter was very nice as well! There is definitely something to be said for peace and quiet, even on Easter. I’m glad you enjoyed my post, we certainly did have a good time together. Happy Easter to you and yours as well!
