“Seas” . . . a Forte Friday Post!

"Seas" . . . the song In keeping with my Forte Friday posts, I'm sharing "Seas" this week. It is one of the songs from my first album, "Creation: A Musical Tapestry", which was launched in July, 2010. This album musical portrays the story of Creation as recorded in Genesis 1. The seas were created after the heaven and the earth, on Day 3. It was then the God commanded "the waters of the earth gathered together at certain places. The waters formed seas and oceans, lakes and rivers, so that in other parts, the dry land became visible." (Chabad.org.) Thoughts on "Seas" . . . When you think of "seas", do you think of a tumultuous storm with raging winds and waves? Or do you think of a calm sea? If you have ever been on a cruise, I'm sure … [Read more...]

“Earth”, a Forte Friday Post!

"Earth", from "Creation: A Musical Tapestry" . . . This week, I'm sharing my song, "Earth", from my "Creation" album. "Earth" is one of the ten songs on my "Creation" album which musically portrays the creation story in Genesis 1. This song is where God created the "heaven and the earth". 1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." Genesis 1: 1-3 (KJV) One of my students in Lonoke told me a few years ago that I needed to have a YouTube video for this song. Lol! I haven't done that yet, but it is on my bucket list. It is … [Read more...]

As I stated in the post last week, this album musically depicts the creation story as recorded in Genesis 1. "Heaven" is the first song in my "Creation: A Musical Tapestry" CD. All songs were written and recorded by me--the piano part--and orchestrations were by Charles M. Barnes. "Heaven" in Genesis 1:1 . . .  "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (KJV) Genesis 1:1 When you think about heaven, what thoughts or images come to your mind? Do you think of God? Or, do angels come to your mind? What about the planets, stars and the universe? Do you look at the sky and … [Read more...]

“Creation: A Musical Tapestry”, a Forte Friday Post!

Creation, the beginning and the end . . . September 21-22, 2017 was Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. It actually began at sundown the night before, September 20. During this holiday, the focus is on creation, actually beginning, as I understand it, on the sixth day, the creation of man. This holiday is believed to be the birthday of the universe, the day God created Adam and Eve. In nature, or creation, the Jews see life expressed in the seed, the sun, and the waters of the earth--all potential life sources. The seed is considered the symbol of fruitfulness of life. If you think about it, everything in life begins with a seed . . . life itself, imaginations, relationships. And from the beginning of creation, there has been "seedtime … [Read more...]

“The Star Spangled Banner”, our National Anthem

September 13, 1814 . . . the birthday of "The Star Spangled Banner" Wednesday, September 13, marked the 203rd anniversary of "The Star Spangled Banner". While it was originally written as a poem by Francis Scott Key, it was later set to music. In 1931 it became our National Anthem. History of "The Star Spangled Banner" . . . Francis Scott Key wrote the words to this famous poem after witnessing the British bombardment of Fort McHenry, in Maryland, during the War of 1812. History records that the battle was brutal, lasting 25 hours. The American patriots were far outnumbered and their weapons were no match for the canons of the British. Even Francis Scott Key thought the battle would be lost. Things surely seemed dire. But the valor and … [Read more...]
